The WorldSSP300 Champion returns in Misano!
Ana Carrasco confirms her aspirations to a second crown in WorldSSP300 after winning in Italy, climbing to second place in the standings!
If Jerez was the turning point for Ana Carrasco in her campaign 2019, then Misano has been the confirmation that the current World Champion means business in 2019. It did not seem so obvious after the first three races of the season, after a best of just eighth place but now, she looks back to her best and will look to be back on top more often than not with her latest success!
Jerez was a revitalisation for the 22-year-old rider: two podiums in the double race weekend at the Andalusian track, and an important jump in the overall classification, from 11th to 6th place in the table. This latest win has taken her to the second position in the championship, tied on 65 points with Dutchman Scott Deroue (Kawasaki MOTOPORT), who could only be seventh in this fifth race of the season.
In addition to the results, Carrasco has once again exhibited her best qualities on the Adriatic track, as in Jerez, but this time with the ability to finish the job in front of a runaway quintet. Championship leader Manuel González (Kawasaki ParkinGO Team) was the most dangerous enemy until the final stages, after 13 laps of a spectacular race which featured many fallers.
"We have worked very well all weekend and I think we deserved to win," said Carrasco. "It was a difficult race, because it was very hot, but it was the same for everyone. I'm very happy, I hope to get another victory very soon."
The first opportunity she will have for this will be in two weeks at Donington Park, a circuit where last year she achieved a second consecutive win of the season. Her success this Sunday also has a symbolic value, since the Spaniard has become the rider with the highest number of victories in the history of WorldSSPP300 – four in total.
